At our school, we are committed to nurturing the personal development of every unique child and view it as one of the corner stones of holistic education. We believe that success is about far more than academic achievement; it is about developing confident, compassionate and resilient young people who are ready to make a positive difference in the ever changing world. This is balanced with a sense of belonging and aspiration.

Our programme aims to offer an exceptional personal development programme from day 1 of Nursery until the next steps of education. We aspire for our children to feel well supported as they explore opportunities within the school environment, local community and wider world that they may not typically experience. Developing life skills for a future world that is ever changing is at the heart of our personal development programme.

Well-being is central to the school's ethos which is recgosied through the school's Emotional and Mental Wellbeing in School Mark, advanced practice accreditation and the Thrive approach. At the heart of this we exposure children to life skills and relationship education with a constant exposure to the British Values permeated authentically through what we do.

We empower our pupils to become leaders, take responsibility, contribute meaningfully to their communities and champion positive change. Through a rich range of experiences and opportunities, children develop the character, skills and values needed to thrive in modern society. Our aim is to equip every pupil with the knowledge, confidence and life skills required for a successful and fulfilling future.

Life Skills at Maple Cross

Alongside the Nationa Curriculum we believe children learn what they need for their future. This includes;

Self-care skills
Life saving first aid (CPR)
Job application and interview opportunities
Safe and active travel
Goal setting and resilience

Ambition at Maple Cross

We aim to inpsire our children with the lives of remarkeable individuals, many who have overcome hardship to achieve great things. Our Reading Den is full of books from the Little People, Big Dreams series and we encourage our children to dream big. The writing curriculum also includes deliberate opportuities to explore inspirational figures, many of whom represent protected charcateristics, who have overcome adversity

Every opportunity to develop our young people is rooted in authenticity and secured in pupils' lived experiences rather than simply being a list of clubs and trips. We seek to broaden horizons with:

meaningful use of the local environment, London and wider cultural opportunities;
democracy and pupil leadership;
environmental partnerships;
transition work with secondary schools;
ensuring pupils encounter experiences they may not otherwise access.
