Linguists at Maple Cross hold a genuine and positive curiosity for language learning. Talk is central to our linguists allowing them to develop the confidence and ability to apply their phonics knowledge accurately and to acquire new vocabulary. Linguists at Maple Cross are aware of the importance for grammatical accuracy and can apply their knowledge and skills to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. They recognise the importance of empathy and respect for other cultures and people and demonstrate this through a developing understanding of the relationships between language and identity, cultures and the world around them. Linguists at Maple Cross work towards becoming life-long language learners.
At Maple Cross, we have designed a bespoke Spanish curriculum to ensure our learners excel in language learning. Throughout Key Stage 2 (Year 3 – Year 6), the children focus on developing the core skills of vocabulary, grammar and phonics in a variety of different situations, where they are taught to see language learning as an exciting puzzle to be pieced together. Children demonstrate their learning through a range of outcomes ensuring they have opportunities to rehearse their speaking, listening, reading and writing. We aim for children to leave us as confident language learners who have a genuine curiosity to discover more.
