The History Curriculum- 2020 and beyond

A historian at Maple Cross is inspired to gain an understanding of the history of their locality and the wider world through a broad and balanced curriculum, rich in knowledge and vocabulary. Our curriculum is inclusive, offering opportunities for all children and striving to represent the achievements of women and the BIPOC community in order to recognise the adversity that many have overcome in the past and promote the British Values to our young learners. Pupils at Maple Cross will develop a secure understanding of chronology and learn of key events and significant figures in history in order to understand their impact in present day. Through various methods of historical enquiry, pupils will develop critical thinking skills by making comparisons between different periods of history studied in order to gain a “bigger picture” and develop their own historical perspectives. By questioning and learning about the past, we endeavour to teach our learners how they can positively impact the world they live in, for now and the future.
