Year 1s were so excited to learn about fruits and vegetables in DT today. They were surprised to learn that many foods commonly called vegetables are indeed fruits! We learned what the difference is between vegetables and fruits and where they grow (above ground, below the ground or on vines or trees). The children showed their sense of adventure in trying brand new foods – kiwis, butternut squash, mango, avocado and mint. We practised good hygiene and safe handling when preparing the fruits for our smoothies. We made three varieties of smoothies – Butternut Boost, Kiwi Crusher and Tropical Tango. Tropical Tango was the most popular smoothie in Year 1 containing pineapple, mango and orange juice.
In applying their learning of grid references in today’s Geography lesson, children recorded where to find London’s key landmarks. We were amazed to see so much improvement in the children’s handwriting and presentation. Year 1s have been working on sitting their letters on the line, forming their letters correctly and striking our mistakes out neatly with a ruler. We are celebrating the incredible progress children have made on their way to becoming brilliant handwriters!
