Spanish session with Ms Perez

We are really happy to work and build strong connections with the Reach Free School.

This Wednesday,  Miss Perez, the Spanish language teacher at Reach Free, organised a session that was delivered by some of her Spanish students at Maple Cross.  Our children had the opportunity to work as a group, as a pair and individually to explore the Spanish language and culture. There were stickers for the winners and little treats for all the participants.

It was a SUCCESS and we are really looking forward to organising more sessions in the future!

Year 4 & 5 Spanish food tasting

There was a real buzz of excitement in the community room at lunchtime today as Kevin the chef dished up some authentic, regional Spanish dishes.  The children were involved in  helping to set up and serve the tapas and listened intently as he explained about the food and its historical background.  Everyone, including the staff involved got to experience the amazing taste of a variety of regional dishes, such as gazpacho, serrano ham with melon or manchego cheese, chicken and chorizo paella with meatballs and patatas bravas, all topped off with refreshing Seville oranges and watermelon which the children devoured! (Vegetarian versions were included).

Spanish Day

On Friday, Years 3, 4 and 5 were treated to a day of Spanish. They took part in five different activities including some Spanish food tasting, salsa dancing, Spanish storytelling, Spanish art and translation. The children participated fully in all learning stepping outside their comfort zones to try new things. It was fantastic to see them learning together in mixed year groups. The children shared some great reflections on their learning.

The Spanish story telling was amazing. It’s not every day you get to learn a traditional tale in Spanish.

Days like this help us learn about cultures we would maybe never visit.

I am surprised in a good way. At first I thought I couldn’t do it but I did.

I feel really proud that we learnt something new and challenging like the salsa.

Reach Free Spanish

This morning, Year 6 were treated to an exciting morning of Spanish at the Reach Free school. The Year 7 children at the school led four different activities for our children to experience. Year 6 were engaged and focussed on all the different activities and showed tremendous risk taking by having a go at the new and unfamiliar vocabulary. The children commented, “I learnt that Spanish is hard but fun so this was a great chance to learn.” and “I loved today. I never thought I would enjoy Spanish but I love it. I am glad I got the opportunity.” What did you enjoy? What did you learn?
