Today members of our school council and representatives from each class visited the Palace of Westminster. We travelled by public bus to the station and then hopped on the tube to Westminster. On the way back the children shared their most inspiring/surprising/though provoking moment of the day. Their responses were wonderful to hear.
“I was surprised that the Queen puts her own crown on” (at the state opening of Parliament)
“We got to go to parts that the Queen isn’t allowed in”
“We saw the marks Black Rod makes at the state opening of Parliament”
“They didn’t finish the paintings in the robe room so after 16 years hung paintings instead”
“Parts were so gold and very posh”
“I can’t believe how old the hall was, it was built in 1097”
“The most interesting part was the secret door to the Queen’s private toilet!”
Here are some photos; due to tight security we were only able to take photos in a few areas of the Palace of Westminster.
