Ordering by length in Reception

During our maths sessions this week we have been finding items that are either longer or shorter than a lolly stick.  Today, on our Welly Walk, we found things that were shorter than a lolly stick and longer than a lolly stick and put them in order.  Here are some photos of our learning.  Can you find different things at home and put them in order from shortest to longest?

Reception children were very excited this morning when the much wished for snow finally arrived.  We quickly put our coats on and went outside in the snow.  The children enjoyed looking at the snow and ice through magnifying glasses, catching it and trying to make snowballs.

Y5: Science Week – How does light travel?

Year 5 have had a fabulous science week, investigating how light behaves. We started the week by looking at a large scale puppet show (from Britains Got Talent) and considered how they achieved the remarkable effect – we tried to replicate and manipulate the ideas on a smaller scale.

Next we narrowed our investigation by considering light and shadow and investigated how light travels – Mr Watson suggested that we could compare how light and water travel – see the photos!

After that we tried to make some sense out of what happens to an image when you look at it through a glass of water. We were all quite surprised! We thought of questions that, even though may not explain the effect, made us think about what we could change to see if a different result is produced.

All of our thoughts/questions/observations were recorded in our new science journals.

So, year 5, what did you think of Science Week? What did you enjoy the most? Could you carry on experimenting at home?
